General Motors has announced pricing and specs for the 2014 GMC Sierra pickup truck, bragging about the V8 version topping Ford's EcoBoost V6 in terms of fuel efficiency.
That's a good thing to brag about, no doubt, but what does "the best V8 pickup fuel economy in the industry" actually means? According to GM, the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8-powered GMC Sierra, which uses cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing, is able to achieve 16 mph city and 23 highway with two-wheel drive and 16/22 with four-wheel drive.

This means that the GMC Sierra has 2 mpg over the 2013 Ford V8 pickups and 3 mph over Ram's V8-powered trucks. In addition, Sierra’s new V8 fuel economy estimates also measure higher than those of the 2013 Ford F-150 EcoBoost V6. The pickup will gain two more engines later this year, a 4.3-liter and an all-new 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, with additional specs to be released in due time.

With the current 5.3-liter V8 powerplant, the GMC Sierra will be priced starting from $25,085, including freight charge, but excluding tax, title, license and optional equipment.

"In the core of the full-size truck market, the 2014 Sierra is second to none," said Tony DiSalle, vice president of GMC Marketing. "Truck owners expect durability, capability and fuel efficiency, and this latest generation of our proven V-8 is designed to deliver on those expectations."

2014 Sierra base MSRP:

• Regular cab: $25,085
• Double cab: $29,110
• Crew cab: $33,210

Includes destination freight charge. Excludes tax, title, license and optional equipment.
