Luxury brand Cadillac is recalling its brand new 2014 ELR plug-in hybrid coupe to fix an electronic glitch that may occur due to a calibration error, General Motors announced today.
The recall affects 663 Cadillac ELRs that haven’t been fitted with adaptive cruise control. According to GM, a calibration error may prevent the electronic stability control from alerting the driver when certain faults occur.

“The ESC malfunction indicator light will not illuminate as required by the federal safety standard, even though ESC functionality would be disabled or degraded. Failure to illuminate the ESC malfunction indicator light when an ESC fault condition is present could result in an increased risk of crashes and injuries,” the manufacturer said in a statement.

There are no reports of crashes and injuries related to this issue as most of these vehicles are still in dealer hands. Additionally, General Motors said the problem doesn’t affect the Chevrolet Volt, which shares platform with the ELR.

The affected coupes will have their electronic brake control module reprogrammed with the correct calibration at no cost to the owners. A timetable for the recall has yet to be announced.

As a brief reminder, the 2014 Cadillac ELR has arrived in US dealerships last December. The plug-in hybrid is priced from $75,000.
