The third generation of the world’s first Sports Activity Vehicle, the F15 X5 is now closer to your doorstep than you might think. Deliveries are expected any moment now and test drives just keep pouring in.

The guys from autoguide tested two of the new model variants of the X5 and came up with nothing else but a logical conclusion: it’s rather good! If anyone expected anything less from BMW, they shouldn’t be reading this review at all.

The exterior design is a bit similar to the outgoing E70 model but only in general lines. The front fascia has the new connected headlights with revised fog lights while the back looks more like the F25 X3 model, only on a different scale.

Inside the changes are even bigger with a reshaped dash and new, higher-quality materials being used. Nappa leather is looking good, as always and the new X5 even gets some unique features in this regard. Another honorable mention here is the new iDrive touch system that will make things a lot easier for you while behind the wheel.

Engines are limited for now but will be plenty later on. The most powerful version is the xDrive50i that has 450 HP and 650 Nm of torque coming out of a 4.4-liter V8. The power delivery is smooth and indulging allowing you to feel like you’re inside a sedan rather than a heavy SUV-like machine.

Most people will go for the xDrive35d model though, as its efficiency makes the F15 X5 an easy car to live with. Also, the torque and power of the diesel will make sure you never feel slow or bored on the road.

Bottom line, the new X5 is everything it’s supposed to be: an evolution from the previous model that will make sure to cater to everyone’s taste. Thanks to the huge amount of optional features, people will be able to get their own SAV however they like.
