Ducati Alstare has chosen Italian FIM Superstock 1000 rider Niccolo Canepa as a replacement rider for Carlos Checa, who recently had surgery for his fractured pelvis.
While Checa's surgery went very well, the doctors foresee a long recovery period, with at least 3 months of rest at best.

Currently running for the Barni Racing Team Ducati, Canepa has already seen Laguna Seca and has MotoGP experience, as he had his rookie year in 2009 aboard Ducati machinery.

Substituting for Checa, Canepa will ride the 1199 Panigale R WSBK-spec motorcycle for the second time this year, after taking part in the One Event at Donnington Park in May.

"I'm really pleased to have this opportunity. Racing at Laguna Seca with the factory Ducati is really something incredible. I'm feeling confident because Laguna should suit the Ducati well and it also happens to be one of my favourite tracks," Canepa told WorldSBK.com.
