While we’re still waiting to see what the new Toyota Corolla will look like in America or Europe, the Japanese have been enjoying the eleventh-generation model since it was launched there in May 2012.
The sedan is know as the Axio, while the station wagon is called the Corolla Fielder. They are both produced by a subsidiary called Cetral Motors. The new “Axio” has been designed to be smaller and lighter than the 2006 model, which is what we’d expect for the export models as well.
The 2013 Corolla Fielder is available with either a 1.5-liter or a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a CVT gearbox. There’s even a 4WD version of the 1.5-liter.
Prices for the Corolla Fielder start at JPY1,707,350, which is about $19,000. It’s not exactly a Mercedes, but Toyota’s Japanese commercial is paints a pretty picture: adventure, fun, rocking out, video games, being a corporate big-shot and having the pretty (European) blond blowing you kisses.
