Yamaha bikes have been quite fast during the first Free Practice at the Losail circuit in Qatar.
The reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo had the fastest lap in Qatar, on a track which still leaves a lot of room for traction improvements. His time was 1m56s685, 58 thousandths of a second faster than Yamaha satellite team Tech 3 rider Cal Crutchlow.

The third fastest lap belonged to Valentino Rossi, 71 thousandths behind his team mate. The top 5 positions have been completed with Honda's Marc Marquez and Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso. The other Honda and Ducati factory team riders Pedrosa and Hayden came in 8th and 10th positions, respectively.

Paul Bird Motorsport Colombian Yonny Hernadez crashed and his bike flipped across the gravel patch, but he was ok and back on another machine to finish in the 18th place.

From the top riders, Dani Pedrosa was the only one to report problems: he ran off the track twice in Turn 1, but made it safely back. As the track was extremely dusty during Free Practice 1, we expect better results in FP2.
