It looks like it's "game on" at Misano as Jorge Lorenzo confirmed that Yamaha machinery will be running the all-new "seamless" gearbox in the GP Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.

Yesterday's press conference was centered on how Marquez' shoulder was doing, but the really big news was Lorenzo's announcement: "It [seamless transmission] will be here for the weekend. We can say that. Tomorrow! After a nice victory at Silverstone, normally Misano is good for me, I have always finished first or second in MotoGP. I like the track and I think we’re in good shape," the Spaniard added, according to

The new transmission is supposed to bring Yamaha prototypes in line with the Repsol Honda machinery. The shifting performance improved dramatically for Yamaha, as the tests in Brno apparently showed, but the new gearbox is still shifting slower than Honda's.

However, this weekend will be the real-life testing under racing conditions for the new Yamaha technology: if the transmissions perform well as far as reliability is concerned, we might be looking at a new battleground between championship leader Marquez and the reigning champion Lorenzo. With Lorenzo already being very competitive and having won 4 times this year, having him riding a slightly faster machine could bring some cold sweat down Marquez' spine.

Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis also added that the new transmission was brought to Misano at the special request form Rossi and Lorenzo: "[The transmission was brought in now] with the pressure from these two! But if it’s ready for Monday, it’s ready for now. We have a deficit to Honda and need to do everything we can to challenge them over these next six races."
