Besides the coupe version of the new V8-powered Continental GT, Bentley will also debut the Continental GTC in Detroit, and the British brand has released a slew of information, specs and photos ahead of the debut.
Complimenting the existing 6.0-liter W12, the convertible now also comes with the Audi-codeveloped twin-turbo V8 capable of delivering 500 bhp (507 hp) at 6000 and 660 Nm (487 lb ft) between 1700 to 5000 rpm.

Besides being smaller and lighter, the new engine also offers better fuel economy and lower emissions than the W12, thanks in part to the use of more advanced technologies like direct injection, variable displacement and a new 8-speed transmission.

The 500+ hp of the engine allows the GTC to sprint to 62 60 mph in 4.6 seconds (0 to 100 Km/h in 4.8 seconds) and reach a top speed of 188 mph (303 Km/h).

The V8 version is also a bit cosmetically distinctive, thanks to a gloss black matrix grille with brought chrome surround, a dark rear lower valance, newly designed wheels and double 'figure eight' exhaust tips.

“The new V8 engine gives Bentley a three-engine line-up for the first time since the early days of the company and we’re confident it will characterize the Bentley driving experience just as the 6.75 V8 and 6.0 W12 drivetrains do. Hitting the efficiency targets we set ourselves was a tough challenge; but not only is the new 4.0 V8 a standard-setter for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, it also rewards the keen driver exactly as a Bentley engine should.” says Brian Gush, Head of Chassis and Powertrain Engineering, Bentley Motors.

Prices start at €149,600 in Europe, including tax, and £136,250 in Britain.
