2012 Mercedes M-Klasse, the Motion Picture

Slowly, and in a less official manner than we have gotten accustomed to, the new Mercedes Benz M-Klasse is revealing itself in all its glory. First, a scan of a brochure, then a few leaked photos, and now the first official video presenting the SUV that is hoped to redefine the term efficiency for its class. And we're not just talking a presentation video, but an over five-minute long, worth watching motion picture, with characters, and plot, and all of that...

To be launched later this year, the new M-Klasse will become available in three versions at first, as follows: ML 250 CDI (2.1l, 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque), ML 350 CDI (3l, 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque) and the ML 350 BlueEfficiency (3.5l, 306 hp and 370 Nm of torque). All engine versions of the new M-Klasse will be paired to a 7G-Tronic Plus transmissions.

By far, the most remarkable engine of all is the diesel, a model which, if driven properly, can be more fuel efficient than a hybrid, for instance. According to the German automaker, the 250 CDI has a fuel consumption of only 6l/100 km, which would mean that the car is capable of going for some 1,500 km on a single tank, which in turn makes the new M-Klasse the most fuel efficient premium SUV in the world.

Other than that, the M-Klasse is just another Mercedes. As standard, the new SUV line will be equipped with Airmatic suspension, Active Curve control, Night View Assist, Lane Departure Warning System, Distronic Plus and much, much more.
