The SL63 was not the only AMG car unveiled yesterday, as the Mercedes Petronas Formula One Team also unveiled the W03 car for the 2012 championship season. The car was shown at the Circuit de Catalunya track in Spain, where the press had been gathered for the second official pre-season test.
“We had a car that was mechanically complete some time ago and we’ve done a lot of work on rigs to understand how it behaves and performs,” Mercedes GP principal Ross Brawn said. “For us, at least, in that respect this is probably the best prepared program we’ve had going into the first race.”
Brawn described the ugly nose as being “an acquired taste”, but called the whole car “a clean step forward in terms of detail design and sophistication”.
