Here’s what we know so far! Before Audi replaces the now aging bit ultra-cool R8 with a new generation, the car will get a 2012 refresh. We’ve already shown you the front bumper of the car, but German publication auto motor und sport has come up with this brilliant rendering of the facelifted version and we’d like to give you our take on the story.
First the cosmetics, what the rendering shows is actually a concept version of the front end, as those lights don’t look all that functional. The big changes come in the form of a new grille that’s got edges at all four corners, much like the facelifted A5. Even on the production version, the lights will most likely come much closer to the grille than before.

Powering the R8 will be slightly meatier version of the existing V8 and V10. We’ve heard that Audi is playing with configurations such as a T5 and rear wheel drive, and this is very exciting, but the 2012 will definitely not see these changes. It will however get a dual-clutch gearbox to replace the R-Tronic six-speed. There’s still a chance the 2012 R8 will debut in Frankfurt, but we’re not holding our breath.
