The meanest model in Audi’s parking lot has gathered a couple of “wrinkles” after being unveiled at the 2006 Paris Auto Show. So in order to get rid of them, Audi plans to release a facelift version of the R8 sometime next year. The 2012 Audi R8 will get a number of subtle styling tweaks, more powerful V8 and V10 engines, as well as a new S tronic transmission.
The Audi R8 will receive an engine upgrade that will turn its 5.2-liter V10 to produce 533bhp (525hp) from 518bhp (510hp). Moreover, the entry-level Audi R8 will be heavily revised in 2012 as well, meaning that its 4.2-liter V8 will be upgraded to the same spec as the Audi RS5’s, increasing its output to 444bhp (436hp), up from 424bhp(416hp).
In addition, the manufacturer confirmed that the GT and GT Spyder versions will also be restored, as related by autoguide.com
Almost five years old, the Audi R8 still looks like a brand new model, but despite that fact, the four-ring brand is eager to “update” the supercar. When taking a closer look at the cosmetic changes, we expect a number of subtle additions, such as LED placement and headlight revisions. The front and rear bumpers are also expected to receive some design improvements.
The Audi R8 will be slightly facelifted, just like with the one planned by Lamborghini for R8’s cousin the Gallardo, which we have to mention will have to wait some further three years to get its “beauty treatment”.
