2012 Alfa Romeo Giulia First Details

Back in the days when the Italians from Fiat were fighting on two fronts, one in the US and one in Europe, the plans the company had for the Alfa Romeo brand in the United States began getting out into the open. In the middle of the scorching summer of 2009, Fiat announced that the brand would make its comeback to the States with the help of the Giulia, the replacement of the aging 159 nameplate.

Now, a little over a year after that moment, the first details regarding the upcoming Giulia have begun hitting the web and, according to AutoExpress, the wait for the Americans will end in style, with an Alfa like no others.

To be built on the same platform (yet a bit longer) as the European wannabe sensation Giulietta, the model will borrow heavily from the new design language of the brand, so visible today on the MiTo for instance.

The front-wheel drive vehicle will have a wide choice of engines at its disposal, starting with the 1.4l turbo featured on the Giulietta and ending with the 1750 TBi, which breathes life into the Brera. In between the two, Fiat's highly regarded MultiAir systems will make the engines both frugal, and powerful.

The star of the lineup will be, however, the Cloverleaf version, which will be using not an Italian engine, but a Chrysler-sourced one. All bets are on the Pentastar 3.3l petrol V6. It too will get an infusion of MultiAir tech, with the goal being to make the vehicle capable of battling rivals at over 300 bhp.

More is to follow on the Giulia, perhaps one of the most anticipated models in Alfa's lineup in recent years.
