Although German manufacturer Volkswagen has not yet released through official channels the official information and photos of the 2011 Volkswagen Caddy facelift, the first series of pictures surfaced on several German forums.

The new interpretation of the compact van falls in line with the carmaker's new design language, with the front of the car now receiving the same grille as the rest of the VW range, complete with daytime running lights. Visual changes include redesigned tail lamps, a new steering wheel, revised instrument cluster and higher-grade materials on the interior.

As a premiere, the second row of seats can be removed completely, increasing the maximum cargo space to 3,030 liters on the regular Caddy and to 3,880 liters on the Caddy Maxi.

The Caddy will also become the first compact van in its class to be equipped as standard with ESP on all models. It will also be the only one in its segment offering a choice of a 6 or 7-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) and Hill-Start Assist.

As for engines, the new Caddy preps quite a comprehensive offer. The petrol lineup comprises two new 1.2l TSI petrol engines (86 PS and 105 PS). A 2.0l EcoFuel unit, capable of running on compressed natural gas is
also available.

The diesel offering is much more comprehensive, comprising four variations of the turbocharged four-valve TDI (75 PS, 102 PS, 110 PS and 140 PS). A BlueMotion version is being offered for the Caddy 1.6 TDI 102 PS, providing a fuel consumption rating of 4.9l/ 100 km (48 mpg).

The new Caddy will be offered in three trims, Startline, Trendline and Comfortline. A special camper van, the Tramper, is also being offered.

Volkswagen has also announced the prices for the new Caddy. The model will retail from EUR13,595 for the panel van and EUR14,205 for the Startline equipped with the 86 PS TSI engine. The prices, as you can see, are a bit lower than the ones of the previous generation. Sales of the new Caddy will begin in September in Germany.
