Toyota might be the leader the market in terms of hybrid sales and gas-electric powerplants are sure to continue to play a key role in the company’s future, as they’ve previously announced huge sales targets for 2020, but that is not the end of the Big T’s green ambitions.
Just last week, we heard the Big T wanted to bring a hydrogen-powered car for the masses by 2015, but now it’s all gotten real, with the unveiling of the Toyota FCV-R Concept, which will bow at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the month.

This tear-droped sedan is a precursor to the next generation of fuel-cell vehicles powered by hydrogen. The bits that actually turn chemistry to electricity are located underneath, so the FCV-R still has room for four adults inside.

The 70 MPa (we’ve got to learn new unit measurer!) fuel tank is supposed to provide enough range for a journey of 700 km (435 miles). Expect more details to emerge as the car is fully detailed in Tokyo.
