2010 World Car of the Year Nominees

The 2010 World Car of the Year award finalists have been announced. These are the automotive creations which will fight for the four prizes: Car of the year, Performance Car of the Year, Green Car of the Year, and World Design of the Year.

The top three finalists in the four categories will be announced on March 2 at the Geneva Auto Show, and the New York Auto Show will see the winners being introduced to the public, on April 1.

Here are the lists of the cars we are talking about:

The 2010 World Car of the Year:
Audi Q5
BMW X1
Chevrolet Cruze
Kia Soul
Mazda3
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Opel/Vauxhall Insignia / Buick Regal
Porsche Panamera
Toyota Prius
Volkswagen Polo

The 2010 World Performance Car of the Year :
 Aston Martin V12 Vantage
Audi R8 V10
Audi TT RS Coupé / Roadster
BMW Z4
Ferrari California
Jaguar XFR
Lotus Evora
Mercedes-Ben z E 63 AMG
Nissan 370 Z
Porsche 911 GT3 (Porsche Boxster / Cayman

The 2010 World Performance Car of the Year :
Ford Fusion Hybrid
Honda Insight
Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid
Toyota Prius
Volkswagen BlueMotion (Golf, Passat, Polo)

The 2010 World Design of the Year:
Chevrolet Camaro
Citroen C3 Picasso
Kia Soul,
Toyota Prius.


These contestants are being evaluated by a jury of fifty-nine international automotive journalists (coming from 23 countries). Each car will be evaluated in terms of overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal and significance.

A different procedure is used for the Green Car of the Year and World Design of the Year awards, as a small group of experts also influences the selection process in this cases.
