2010 Toyota Land Cruiser to Debut in Frankfurt

Japanese manufacturer Toyota today released details on the long-awaited new generation Land Cruiser. Set to debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, the new Land Cruiser doesn't not bring impressive styling cues. In fact its purpose it's not to look, but to do. {aD} And Toyota promises this one does a lot. Crammed with off-road technologies the likes of Multi-terrain Select or Crawl Control, the new Land Cruiser is meant to bring "a higher level of on-board guidance and technical support for the driver." But first things first... The Land Cruiser is powered by several engines, starting with the revised 171 bhp 3.0l D-4D diesel, paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. Packed in the five-door, seven seats model, this Cruiser will be available as a right-hand drive version as well. A bigger, 4.0l V6 Dual VVT-i petrol engine, which will be available only as a left-hand drive, will come with a three-door body and a best-in-class fuel economy: 34.9 mpg (8l/100 km). What really matters in an off-roader, the suspensions, have been revised to increase the comfort and steering feel. LC4 and LC5 models grade models are equipped with a new electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which adjusts the front and rear anti-roll bars for optimized performance. For the flagship LC5, Toyota’s Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system is available with Roll Posture Control, allowing the driver to choose out of three damper settings. The Multi-terrain feature we mentioned earlier automatically controls power and braking to optimize performance for different types of off-road surfaces. Crawl Control lets the driver choose from five settings, in order to save save the vehicle should it get stuck in mud. If your hurdling down or up rocky terrain, it doesn't mean you shouldn't do so comfortable. The Land Cruiser comes equipped with Smart Entry and Start, separate air conditioning unit for the rear and 14-speaker JBL Synthesis Premium Surround Sound System (LC4 and LC5). Pricing has not yet been announced. autoevolution will be attending the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions.
