After yesterday we told you that the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor was named by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) the Truck of Texas, we come back today to present you the Texan's choice in terms of compact SUVs: the 2010 Jeep Patriot.
"This is certainly an honor for Jeep," Michael Manley, Jeep CEO said when announcing the award. "We're proud the Patriot proved its off-road prowess at the Texas Truck Rodeo. The Trail Rated Jeep Patriot 4x4 is hands down the most capable and affordable SUV in the compact segment."
The SUV was chosen after 40 TAWA members got the chance to take the Jeep for a two day spin across Texas. Of course, the Patriot's competitors were put through the same off-road paces, but the Jeep managed to get all the attention and, finally, the prize.
"The TAWA Truck Rodeo is the most comprehensive evaluation of new trucks and SUVs in the country and manufacturers consider it a great honor to win their category," Harold Gunn, TAWA president concluded.
The Patriot which received the award is equipped with Freedom Drive II Off-Road package, meaning it is one inch higher than its non-Trail counterpart. The package uses a second gen Continuously Variable Transaxle with a low ratio (CVT2L) and comes equipped with all-terrain tires tow hooks and fog lamps.
For those who want one, the Patriot is being offered at a starting price of $18,425 (including $630 destination). Fuel consumption is rated at 29 mpg (8.11l/100 km).
