2010 Dodge Challenger NASCAR Nationwide Series Unveiled

American carmaker Chrysler is getting ready to meet the challenge made by Ford Mustang’s entry in the NASCAR series with the introduction of the new Nationwide Series Dodge Challenger.

Additionally, Chrysler announced it will continue to provide support for Penske Racing’s two-car operation in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, in addition to Penske’s three teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

As the performance brand of our new company, we are excited to expand our relationship with Penske Racing and introduce the iconic Dodge Challenger as our entry into the NASCAR Nationwide Series,” Ralph Gilles, Dodge Car Brand CEO said in a release.

As the result, Penske will now field two teams, with the Challenger to be used at four “New Car” races. The debut will be made at Daytona in July 2010 (followed by Michigan, Richmond, and Lowe's Motor Speedway). For the rest of the races, Penske will continue to use Dodge Chargers.

I am honored to be one of Dodge Motorsport’s drivers and to be able to drive the new Challenger in the NASCAR Nationwide Series is going to be awesome. The car looks great and will give the Nationwide Series its own identity,” Justin Allgaier said. Allgaier will be the driver of the Challenger in the upcoming races.

The new car, dubbed No. 12 Dodge Challenger, can be seen on Monday at Talladega Superspeedway, during the NASCAR Nationwide “new cars” test sessions.

Motorsports are a significant part of the Dodge brand’s legacy. Penske Racing has such a rich tradition in motorsports, and our partnership in the Nationwide Series will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the Challenger and offer our loyal Dodge enthusiasts plenty of excitement in this very competitive series next year,” Ralph Gilles concluded.
