The 1971 Chevrolet Corvette engine lineup included the 350ci (5.7-liter) unit offered as the base configuration, this time developing 270 horsepower, and the more powerful LT1, which now produced 330 horsepower.
At the top of the range sat the LS5 454ci (7.4-liter) big-block, which was offered for the 1971 Corvette only. It pushed the maximum power output to no less than 425 horsepower, thus serving as a more powerful option for those who wanted to turn the Vette into a small rocket.
The Corvette we have here is equipped with the LT1 V8, and the most important thing to know is it’s the original unit installed by Chevrolet when it built the car.
It’s a matching-numbers example, and the people over at Future Classics, who are in charge of selling the car, claim it’s one of close to 1,950 units produced with this engine.
Last titled in 1984, the Corvette has spent the last 37 years mostly in a garage, and you can easily tell it was parked in the right conditions by simply checking out the photo gallery above. The car looks great, and the Sunflower Yellow paint, which is believed to have been offered on a little over 1,000 cars in 1971, still shines bright.
Everything is working, and the 4-speed manual transmission is also shifting correctly. Available options include a sport steering wheel, disk brakes, a dual-exhaust system, a center console with gauges, and power steering.
Assembled in St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette comes with a working top, so at the end of the day, it’s ready to become a daily driver too. Still, it goes without saying it’s rather a gem every collector would love to own rather than a car to use for a daily commute.
