The short-lived Oldsmobile 88 generations received a new refresh in 1959 when the carmaker rolled out another series (again produced for just two years).
The new generation could be had with a 371 V8 as standard, but Oldsmobile also launched a 394 Rocket V8 for the Super 88. The new mill was fitted with a four-barrel carburetor to develop 315 horsepower, much more than the 371 (rated at 265 horsepower with a two-barrel unit and 300 horsepower with a four-barrel).

The Oldsmobile 88 that landed on eBay a few days ago, courtesy of seller missionclassics, comes with a 371, but one of the main selling points resides on the odometer.

The car has just 29K miles, and the owner says it's believed the mileage is original, though it's unclear if the V8 has ever received any restoration work.

Leaving this mysterious tidbit aside, it's hard to find something to hate on this Olds. The car is nearly in tip-top shape, and you'll probably have to inspect it in person from a close distance to discover a spot requiring fixes.

The paint is fantastic, sporting a mix of Sandstone and Pearl Gray. It comes with custom pinstriping that makes the car unique and a head-turning machine wherever it goes.

The seller doesn't share any specifics regarding a potential restoration, but I believe this Oldsmobile has already been refreshed. It's the only way to explain the otherwise gorgeous condition, especially for the paint, which is almost spotless. As a result, it's probably safe to assume the car has been restored and parked in a garage, away from anything that could alter its tip-top shape, including rain, snow, and heavy sun.

The car rolled off the assembly lines with a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission and power steering, still flexing the factory two-tone gray cloth interior. It comes with new wide whitewall tires.

An Oldsmobile 88 in such great shape can't sell cheaply, and the garage in charge of finding a new owner probably has high expectations for the eBay auction. The bidding has already reached $2,225, but a reserve is also in place, and its value is unknown. The bidding must increase up to ten times to unlock the reserve and give this car a second chance, though such details haven't been disclosed.

You can find the car in Brooksville, Florida, and you should be able to drive it home. However, considering the mileage (which the garage says is "possibly original"), you'll probably want to tow the car to preserve the impressive number on the odometer. You have one week to convince your wife that a 1959 Oldsmobile 99 has a place in your garage, as the auction is scheduled to end before the New Year.
