1957 Dual Ghia Convertible Goes Under the Hammer

RM Auctions revealed that one of about 117 Dual-Ghia examples built new is set to be auctioned at the upcoming Amelia Island sale on March 12. The example in question, which was sold new for $7,920, it’s now estimated to fetch somewhere between $250,000-$350,000.

The vehicle is finished in white, and boasts a chrome, stainless, black convertible top and red boot, while the trunk is lined in black carpet and diamond-tufted vinyl. The interior has been restored in red and white vinyl upholstery.

In addition, the matching steering wheel, door panels and dash have been restored to the same standard, while the instrument panel’s chrome bezels have been re-plated. As in the trunk, a diamond-tufted vinyl
upholstery panel lines the underside of the hood. According to the auctions house, the exhaust system is brand new as well.

Technical wise, the car is fitted with a 230 bhp, 315 cu. in. D-500 V-8 engine with four-barrel carburetor, Chrysler Powerflite automatic transmission, independent front suspension with coil springs and semi-elliptic rear leaf springs, and four-wheel drum brakes.

“Given the sheer quality of its restoration, this Dual-Ghia may very well be one of the finest examples in a class of cars that has been tremendously exclusive since its introduction over fifty years ago. In its time, it was said that a Rolls-Royce was reserved for those who could not obtain a Dual-Ghia. Its powerful Hemi and sexy Italian styling have lost none of their allure or luster,”
a statement from RM Auctions reads.
