While in the OEM supercar world Ferrari has hybrid/turbo plans and even Lamborghini has recently showcased a hybrid concept, all with the aim to cut emissions, the tuning realm seems to be trolling, with more and more 2,000 HP cars showing up at various events. The US leads the way when it comes to these street-legal internal combustion monstrosities, with the latest example coming in the form of an 1,800 HP Lamborghini.
The Gallardo, which started out in life as a pre-facelift model, was put to work over the weekend as part of an event called Airstrip Attack 7. The hostilities took place on the runway of the New Coalinga Municipal Airport in California.

The Raging Bull played the standing half-mile game, with the car managing to hit a mind-blowing 229.1 mph. For you folks over in Europe, that’s 804 meters of ferocious acceleration ending in a 368.7 km/h trap speed. By the way, the figure was recorded by both the in-car GPS and the runway systems.

Records and comparisons

This set a new record for Shift Sector events, something you’ll definitely hear about in the future. The Gallardo, which was tricked out by OB Prestige Autos using a Heffner Performance twin-turbo kit, was also the holder of the previous record of 224.4 mph.

Interestingly enough, this places our Gallardo in front of the infamous Alpha Omega GT-R, which recently took down a pair of 2,000 HP Gallardos. Then again, Alpha Omega was clocked at 214 mph back in 2013, while its Lambo-slaughtering feat took place earlier this month, with the car gaining some extra muscle meanwhile. Basically, most of these cars are perpetual work-in-progress projects, so you can never truly know what they have in store for their competition.

By the way, driving a Gallardo with such output figures isn’t exactly a piece of cake. For one thing, these creatures catch fire from time to time...
