Before we venture into this Import vs. Domestic story, we have to mention we're not here to challenge the "no replacement for displacement" line. Nevertheless, the first-generation Mazda RX-7 in the video below is.
This is a machine whose turbine is larger than its engine and we'll even give you the details of this hiperpowered affair. Since this is a Wankel engine, it only comes with a capacity of 1.3 liters, or 79 CI.

With the help of a monstrous 88-mm turbine, the single-rotor motor delivers an output that sits in the 1,000 HP area. This is one of those extreme setups, with the engine running on M1 methanol. For the record, this racing fuel offers 99.95 minimum purity.

Using a wheelie bar, this Mazda can play the quarter mile game in 7.46 seconds at 181 MPH (291.4 KM/H). And that's not all.

We simply have to talk about the David vs. Goliath battle shown in the clip below

As we hinted in the intro, the Mazda recently went head to head with what can easily be described as an epitome of a drag strip-destined muscle car. We're talking about a 1966 Pontiac GTO here, one that uses a 10.35-liter (632 CI) V8 and a hefty dose of nitrous. We don't know for sure, but we can be pretty certain the Pontiac driver did not see this one coming.

Believe it or not, the little Mazda manages to steal the GTO's crown. Oh well, at least the time difference between the two is just as hilarious as the one between their engines.
