ZERO SR Models/Series Timeline, Specifications & Photos

Generations: 6
First production year: 2015

The biggest improvement for this year lies in the drivetrain components. First off, the factory bumped up power output across the board with a maximum of 60 horsepower out of the “S” and 70 from the “SR.” Torque received a bump as well with a maximum of 81 pound-feet and 116 pound-feet, respectively. As always, that torque is available the instant you crack the electronic “throttle” without the need to first gather the rotational inertia in the engine. If you can’t imagine what that means, I assure you all ambiguities will be removed the instant you throw a leg over and grab a fistful.

The 2017 Zero SR amps-up performance with a higher output (775 amp) controller and high temperature motor magnets. The result is a stunning 116 ft-lb of torque, more than any 1,000cc sport bike. With arm-stretching acceleration and higher sustained top speeds, the Zero SR leaves gas-powered competition in the dust.

The Z-Force Power Tank adds 2.8 kWh of power pack storage capacity to any 2014 or later Zero S or Zero SR. An optional accessory, the Power Tank can be added at any time during or after motorcycle purchase, bringing the maximum battery capacity to 15.9 kWh. With that much energy, you can travel up to 197 miles in the city or 98 miles on the highway at 70 mph.

Zero has announced updates to its line of electric motorcycles that include a more powerful interior permanent magnet motor (for some versions), a Charge Tank accessory that allows faster Level 2 charging, and more efficient batteries. The Zero SR ZF13.0 and feature the new Z-Force motor, that produces more power, cools more rapidly and has greater thermal capabilities than the previous unit; this in turn gives more performance and allows higher sustained speeds.
