SUZUKI DR 750 S BIG (1988-1990) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 1987, at the Paris Motor Show, Suzuki presented the DR 750 S, a Desert Express-equipped motorcycle with a 750cc single-cylinder engine, which at the time was the bike with the largest displacement in series production.

In 1988, Suzuki launched the DR 750 S, a replica model of the DR-Zeta factory rally bike, which combined its toughness and reliability also caused a stir with the additional beak mounted rigidly on the fuel tank.

The model featured a light, compact, easy-to-maintain 750cc engine with a revolutionary dual slingshot carburetor feeding the big cylinder with an air and fuel mixture. Also, the engine delivered good torque and a good response from low-medium revs up to the high-rpm range.

The 179cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine developed a power output of 52 hp at 6,600 rpm and 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm, transferred on the ground with the help of a five-speed manual transmission.

Suzuki focused on weight save with the chassis reduced in size and weight with a lower center of gravity, which resulted in a dry weight of 179 kg (394 lbs) and a good balance between high-speed stability and rough road conditions.

As a side note, the models before 1991 were the best choice for long distances with their enormous fuel tanks and the possibility of carrying lots of luggage due to the low-mounted exhaust system, which made it possible for saddlebags to be mounted without the risk of burning them up. On the other hand, the saddle was not that comfortable on older models.
