At the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show, the Italian maker introduced the Ducati Sport Classics, a range of retro-styled machines manufactured from 2006. One model in the range was the Ducati Sport 1000, manufactured until 2009.

The Ducati Sport 1000 was based on the 1973 Ducati 750 Sport and appeared as a classic, single-seat, lightweight cafe racer. It rolled on wire-spoke wheels with large-section alloy rims dressed in tubed Pirelli Phantom tires.

In 2007, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati Sport 1000 Biposto, a retro-styled motorcycle with a dual seat, hence the Biposto designation. Also, the 2007 machine featured several modifications.

The 2007 Ducati Sport 1000 Biposto was updated with a taller clip-on handlebar, a wet clutch, a swingarm borrowed from the GT1000, dual shocks, and the exhaust system featured a muffler on each side. All these changes made room for passenger footpegs, while they added a removable rear seat cowl, making the machine biposto.

Underneath its fuel tank, the 2007 Ducati Sport 1000 Biposto packed a 992cc four-stroke V-twin air-cooled engine fed by a fuel injection system, delivering an output power of 92 hp with a peak force at 8,000 rpm and 91 Nm (67 lb-ft) torque at 6,000 rpm.

The bike's suspension comprised a 43 mm fully-adjustable USD fork on the front with 120 mm wheel travel and a fully adjustable Sachs shock absorber on the rear with 133 mm wheel travel.
