BMW K1300R (2008-2009) Specs, Performance & Photos

In 2008, the German motorcycle manufacturer launched the BMW K1300R, a naked motorcycle manufactured from 2008 until 2015 as a replacement for the K1200R. The bike's engine was slightly modified by a British company and had an exhaust butterfly flap for boosted torque and an improved exhaust sound.

The K1300R was considered a muscle bike, which was a slang term for naked machines that excelled in high power output and fast acceleration and featured BMW's optional ESA-2 electronic suspension adjustment and a conventional indicator switch instead of the usual BMW three-button configuration.

Some of the technical highlights of the K1300R included the newly tuned Digital Motor Electronics that matched the highest environmental standards, an optimized charge process that offered greater performance and lowered fuel consumption, an optimized maintenance-free shaft drive with a new two-stage drive shaft, and much more.

In the performance department, the 2009 BMW K1300R had its soul in a 1,298cc four-stroke four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that delivered an output power of 173 hp with maximum strength at 9,250 rpm and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) of torque available at 8,250 rpm.

All the power generated by the engine was converted into speed by a six-speed manual transmission that spun the rear wheel to a top speed of 266 kph (165 mph).

For braking purposed, the bike packed two 320 mm discs with four-piston calipers on the front wheel and a 265 mm disc with a dual-piston caliper on the rear wheel.
