Jaguar introduced the R version of its flagship model, the XJ, in 2013, at the New York Internation Auto Show, and it was a clear attack on other luxury high-powered sedans on the market.

When the British brand introduced the X351 generation of its flagship model, the XJ, in 2009, it shocked its regular customers. The new luxury sedan sported a completely new design language, and it looked like its target was younger buyers. But Jaguar also knew that this new type of customer was looking for more power under the hood and more tech on the interior. Thus, in 2013, the XJR saw the broad light, proving that the old cat still had what it needed to shred its rear tires.

On the outside, the new version featured a more aggressive front fascia, with a black mesh grille adorned by the red and green badge of the Jaguar's R versions. Moreover, the front bumper sported a redesigned apron fitted with a lip spoiler at the bottom and large scoops that cooled the brakes. On the hood, the automaker added two functional vents, while at the back of the car, a spoiler adorned the trunk lid, and four exhausts warned other drivers that this was not just a regular XJ.

Inside, the automaker added bolstered front seats up front and a bench seat for three in the back, although just two seats from there could have been used due to the tall transmission tunnel. Drivers could enjoy the thick steering wheel adorned by the R-badge placed on the lower spoke. Since the XJR was special, Jaguar added aluminum pedals, thus creating an even sportier feeling.

But the XJR was special due to its engine. Unlike the rest of the range, underneath this version's hood stood a supercharged five-liter V8 that pumped out 542 hp (550 PS). All that oomph went to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
