Starting this month, BMW will allow its customers to fit their non-M 1ers, 3ers and 5ers with the Launch Control feature for the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
This should take the acceleration times even further down, reaching new benchmarks. The guys from autoforum.cz were invited to the BMW headquarters to test out the 2014, refreshed 5 Series.
The car they had was a 530d, using the same 3-liter diesel engine as before, with 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque and hooked up to the amazing 8-speed transmission.
As a pleasant surprise, the car was also fitted with the Launch Control option and that is what we're here about. Of course, they had to test it and, fortunately for us, they filmed the experiment and posted it online, on Youtube. One interesting thing that caught our eye in this clip is the way the car tells you when to change gear, a system that somehow reminded us of the old BMW E39 M5.
