Some might say that I burn the Mk VI a lot, but that’s just because it never managed to change the game like its predecessor did. Think about it for a second - when the model was first shown in 2003 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it blew just about every other hot hatch out of the water. DSG, a good sound system, a discrete but muscular body, you could have anything with the Mk V. These days, you can pick up a used one for under €10,000 and it’s still a decent motor.
That’s basically why the more rounded GTI has so many fans in the tuning scene and we are not surprised that people are pushing that 2.0-liter TFSI to the max. This latest project comes from Germany's Schmidt Revolution, and also brings subtle exterior mods.
The engine has been fitted with a STO-chip Tuning ECU chip, a new air box and the same sort of center-mounted double exhaust as the R. The result - a GTI with 275 hp instead of the usual 200 hp.
