Toyota FT-86 Saloon Rumored
We already know that the vehicle will be launched as the Toyota FT-86 and that Subaru’s version of the car is expected to be more hardcore. In addition to that, the U.S. might get the vehicle as a Scion, not as a Toyota.
Now, it’s time for a new piece of unofficial information regarding the car. According to carsguide.com.au, Toyota also plans to build a sedan incarnation of the vehicle.
A company insider told the aforementioned source that the FT-86 sedan project has already received the green light. The four-door version of the car seems to be some sort of “plan B” that will be introduced to cover the FT-86 investment in case the coupe doesn’t become a commercial success.
The sedan will share many of the goodies found on the coupe. The list will include the Subaru Liberty platform and the Subaru 204 hp boxer engine that will be matted to a six speed manual gearbox or to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The aforementioned powerplant will be used for the entry-level version of the car, with the superior ones expected to receive a beefier unit, with one of the potential engines being the Subaru 3.6-liter H6 powerplant.
The saloon will be aimed to fit somewhere between the BMW 1 Series and 3 Series and is expected to have a price of under $30,000 (for the Japanese market).
