Last time we heard something about the Toyota-BMW collaboration was back in June 2013, when a Toyota representative said that the two companies are working on advanced lithium-ion batteries for vehicle applications.
But recently, the rumors about the two automakers working on a sportscar have been confirmed. Speaking to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, BMW development chief Dr. Herbert Diess confirmed what many of us suspected so far.
"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car," Diess said. “What is important is that there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands." he added.
This means that, unlike the collaboration between Toyota and Subaru to create basically one car with different badges for each brand, the Toyota-BMW project will spawn two differently styled sportscars based on the same platform.
Rumors say that this might be the next Lexus LFA, but if we take a step back to when Tetsuya Tada was saying that the sportscar family should be formed of three cars, with the GT 86 being the middle one, we can only guess that it must be something close to the Supra.
