The Joss JP1 Is Here

It’s always great to hear about fresh meat on the supercar market, but in many cases, when a new kid on the block announces a vehicle that will redefine the laws of physics, all we get before the project vanishes into economic failure is a set of impressive specs and a few renderings. Fortunately, this is not the case with the Joss JP1, the supercar from Down Under.

Joss Developments Limited recently pleased the crowds in Melbourne, releasing new... renderings of the car that were accompanied by the JP1’s prototype.

The vehicle was shown to the public at the Australian Motor show, with the company upping the ante on its top speed front. It seems that the JP1 will be capable of hitting 360 km/h (224 mph).

The JP1 is powered by a 6.6-liter V8 mill that delivers 507 hp and is mated to a Albins Zeroshift Manual Transmission, which is one of the icings on this AU$500,000 (EUR 369,000 or $526,000) cake, helping the unit send the car past the 62 mph mark in under 3 seconds and complete the 0 to 100 mph (160 km/h) sprint in six seconds flat.

An official statement explains how the transmission works to cut power delivery pauses: “Zeroshift’s technology replaces the synchromesh in a conventional manual gearbox with paired interlocking drive rings that change ratio without interrupting the torque. The lightweight shift forks that control the rings can be shifted using conventional hydraulics that place minimal parasitic loads on the engine. The gearbox architecture with a single clutch is retained.
