Supermini crossovers are big business in Europe right now, with Renault reporting 100,000 sales of their Captur model in less than a year and both Opel and Peugeot reporting similarly strong sales. Now, Hyundai is working on its very own model, which will be called the ix25.
These are the very first images we have of the new model as it was testing in Norther Sweden. However, the ix25 has been spotted before on a number of occasions in China, where it will also debut, during this April's Beijing Motor Show.
The ix35/Tucson's little brother cuts a boxy figure meant to maximize interior space and cargo capacity. We expect this to be quite a large vehicle for its class, measuring about 4.2-liter. Hyundai has shown a tendency to stretch its cars to offer "best-in-class cargo space". But, design will not be bland either, with large headlights and a trapezoidal lower grille.
The ix25's platform will be shared with the new i20 hatchback. We think Hyundai will mix in older engines like the 1.4 with 109 PS or the 1.4 diesel with downsized GDI-T turbo units they've been promising for about a year now.
