The E-Class Coupe is looking like it might debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show. There's barely any camouflage left anywhere on this particular test prototype, which has once again been spied near the Daimler test facilities in Stuttgart.
There's not much magic going on here, as the same black 2-door car has been seen before. But we took a closer look to find that it's equipped with traditional analog dials.
The E-Class Coupe will undoubtedly have the option of an all-digital dashboard where you can configure the dials any way you like. But that doesn't mean the analog version is boring. Just like on the saloon, there's a big display in the middle, between the speedometer and rev counter. That's where the car can display anything from local speed limits to what gear you're in.
The body kit used by this particular model reminds us of the Avantgarde Line on the E-Class sedan. It's got prominent, but fake air intakes on the sides of the bumper, and discreet aero meant to give a sporty appearance without going over the top. Unlike the sedan model, though, the E-Class Coupe has a starburst grille design which is probably standard, a feature shared with the 2-door C-Class.
Much like its stablemates, this next-gen coupe model is defined by a sleek profile with very few lines or creases. However, there are ways in which you can tell them apart. For example, the E-Coupe has a glass-to-glass design, while the smaller C-Coupe features B-pillars that are blacked out.
From the back, the new taillight design is evident, as they are thin and cut almost down the middle by the trunk opening. Compare these to a photo of the C205 C-Class' rump and notice the difference.
The good news on the engine front is that for the first time, there will be an E63 Coupe. Looking at the fantastic reviews that the AWD-equipped 600+ horsepower sedan has been getting, that's the best kind of news we can offer.
