When you combine the names “Mustang” and “Shelby” you should be prepared for an adrenaline rush that will leave you dreaming for a long period of time.However, you can forget all you knew about Shelby Mustangs, as the company is preparing a big boy toy that will take the game to a whole new level.
Shelby has joined forces with Nelson Racing Engines to create a ‘'Stang that can leave many of the performance road vehicles on the planet in its dust.
The vehicle’s 5.4 liter V8 powerplant has received an infinite list of top modifications, now using twin Turbonetics turbochargers, a dual fuel system that allows it to run on both race and street fuel, as well as an electronic boost control that can offer a different level of boost pressure for every gear. The result of all this? Are you ready to hear this? In excess of 1,000 hp at the rear wheels
The project, which uses the “Code Red” name, is based on a 2008 model year Shelby GT 500 and is currently in the prototype stage.
However, all that power could actually ruin a vehicle, if this isn’t fitted with the necessary goodies to keep it under control. Shelby knows this and has installed a Shelby/Eibach adjustable suspension, a 9-inch Currie rear end, a set of beefy 14-inch Baer brakes, a ten-point roll cage and others.
Like we said, the project hasn’t received the production green light yet, but Shelby estimates that the modifications alone would have a price playing in the $100,000 league.
