As if buying up most of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 examples wasn't enough, the passionate car people from Saudi Arabia have built their own version of the ultra-tough, super-luxurious German pickup. It might not have three axles and a carbon fiber body kit, but it's just as impressive.
Now, the language barrier is obviously a problem for us, but here's no questioning what's going on in the video: a big, red truck with chrome details driving down a boat ramp and into the sea.
We know for a fact that this is going on in Saudi Arabia, so this is either the Red Sea or the Persian Golf coast. Either way, the custom truck is going where no wheeled vehicle has EVER gone before… and returned.
What's that, you've never head of the International MXT? Just like the Hummer, this thing was originally developed as a military vehicle. Some people seem to think that bigger is always better, people like Arnold Schwarzenegger. And it's precisely for that reason that Navistar International Corporation soon built a civilian version.
This extreme truck is available in a number of versions and can be fitted with either a 7.6-liter inline-6 or a 6-liter V8 (similar to the Ford Power Stroke), both being diesel-burners. In both cases, an Allison heavy-duty 5-speed automatic takes the power to a permanent all-wheel drive system.
The International MXT (Military Extreme Truck) made its debut as a concept vehicle at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and entered production two years later. The MXT comes with a 40 gallon (150 liters) fuel tank, can weigh 6.4 tons if armored and will cost around $130,000 (€104,000)… not including taxes and delivery to the Middle East.
