The bold crew over at Polestar would probably tune a moose if they had one. In this respect, the Volvo go-fast division’s latest efforts sees this injecting a bit of extra power into the... V60 D6 Plug-In Hybrid.
Willing to make sure that the upgrade doesn’t compromise the efficiency, Polestar kept the numbers low, adding 15 hp and 30 Nm (22 lb-ft), which means the hybrid now allows its driver to control 302 hp and 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) of torque.

This was achieved by gifting the internal combustion engine side of the hybrid powertrain, a five-cylinder 2.4-liter diesel, with an ECU remap.

Aside from the fact that this is a 300 hp hybrid, Polestar was quick to add that we are now dealing with the most powerful oil-burning Volvo ever. Indeed, while an impressive number of aficionados like to a strap a V8 to their boxy 1980s and 1990s Volvos, apparently nobody thought of using diesel in the process.

The upgrade shave 0.1 seconds off the V60 D6 Plug-In Hybrid’s 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time, which means the estate can now cover this in six seconds flat. Polestar didn’t mention anything about the top speed, but there’s a reason for that. The stock model is electronically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph) or 120 km/h (75 mph) when running in EV mode.

Nonetheless, Polestar explains the efficiency was not affected by the gym stint. Thus, the hybrid is still capable of achieving 1.8 liters per 100 km (131 US mpg or 157 UK mpg) - since this is a plug-in hybrid, the figure can vary to quite some extent when compared to the real world one, depending on the battery charge at the beginning of the trip.

The Polestar upgrade means the Volvo keeps its warranty, with this currently being offered to drivers in Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK.
