Mercedes G 350 BlueTEC Presented

German carmaker Mercedes Benz detailed a new version of its 31-year old G-Klasse off-roader. The version, dubbed G 350 BlueTEC, promises to be one of the most eco-friendly in its class.

The G350 features AdBlue, an aqueous urea solution which is injected into the exhaust-gas stream. As a result, ammonia is released, converting some 80 percent of the nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water by a process of reduction in the downstream SCR catalytic converter.

According to Daimler, one tank of the solution is good for around 12,000 km.

Under the hood, the car packs a V6 diesel engine which develops 210 hp at 3,400 rpm and has a torque of 540 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. The unit produces even less emission than the G 350 CDI model, reaching the levels required by the EU5 standard.

For its off-roading abilities, the G 350 BlueTEC uses electronically controlled traction system 4ETS, Electronic Stability Program ESP and three differential locks selectable at the push of a button, as well as permanent all-wheel drive with off-road ratio and the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission.

The new range of the G-Klasse is completed by the 5.5l V8 petrol engine developing 388 hp and 530 Nm of torque. At the top of the range, the G 55 AMG model features a V8 supercharged engine developing 507 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm.
