Maserati Unveils 2011 Kubang Luxury Performance SUV Concept
We’re not going to call this SUV ugly, but the lines are definitely not something revolutionary. The grille at the front is really imposing and all, but the two creases on the bonnet make it look a bit like the Peugeot 508.
Yes, the production version will be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but Maserati has pledged that the Kubang will we 100% Italian flavored, as the “style, engine, suspensions, brakes, handling and performance will all be 100% Maserati.”
We were skeptical at first while reading those particular lines, as we thought they meant they would put a different cover on an American HEMI and call it their own. But no, brand new Maserati proprietary engines will be designed in Modena by Paolo Martinelli – Head of the Maserati Powertrain Department and for nearly 30 years at Ferrari. The new units will be coupled to an AT 8 speed automatic transmission. Could we be seeing the First Maserati diesels soon?
Yes we know, it's time to eat a slice of humble pie, we'll admit that it looks nothing like the supposedly leaked picture.
