Lit Motors C1 - Brilliant Two-Wheeled EV First Road Test

Our modern day cars have four wheels mainly for stability and cornering grip and safety, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The Lit Motors C1 is one of the most interesting and futuristic modes of transport we’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing and it also blurs the lines between cars and motorcycles like no other vehicle before it.
It’s basically a completely covered electric scooter which can maintain its balance (in a similar way to a Segway) so it can sit upright on its own, enabling the rider to become a driver, with a proper steering wheel and the lot. Another advantage of the system is efficiency, since it only has two wheels and a very aerodynamic shape, it encounters very little resistance to forward movement, and thus it’s quicker and more efficient than a similarly powered 4-wheeled vehicle.

An actual run, of the actual vehicle, was recently shot shot by its creators, showcasing the balancing technology which uses a 3-axis gyro sensor and flywheels. The greatest thing of all is that the system actually works and the C1 is a very stable machine. With its 54hp electric motor, it is also capable of 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in around 7 seconds and will top out at 190km/h - we're struggling to find a reason not to buy this thing for its expected price of around €12,500 ($16,000) when it goes on sale, some time in 2013.

We’re really keeping our eye on this one, and hopefully we’ll get to see more videos of it soon, as sadly this one is quite short.
