In early January, 2015 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo jumped ship and changed his helmet manufacturer. After putting an end to his contract with the Korean company HJC, JL99 inked a one-season deal with French maker Shark.
In the good tradition of such endorsement contracts, Shark Helmets have not been idling and came up with the Race-R Pro Jorge Lorenzo Replica, a helmet that sports almost the same graphic layout as the lid the Yamaha rider wears this season.

The Race-R Pro Jorge Lorenzo Replica is a lid in Shark's premium segment, featuring performance specs derived from the highest tiers of motorcycle racing. One of the strongest assets of the Shark Lorenzo Replica lid is its quick-release visor system that involves almost no moving parts and is, therefore, extremely compact and tough.

The visor slots in the optical class 1 and comes with variable thickness (2.8mm around edges and 4.25mm in center). This design makes sure that the image has almost perfect optical quality, faithfully representing the surroundings. A patented 4-point anchoring lock system enhances the safety of the lid, while the magnetic chin strap prevents unwanted movements of the strap's loose end.

Shark manufactured the lid with a carbon aramid fiber shell in two sizes, with a 1.25 kg (2.75 lb) weight. Inner shells come in sizes XS through XL, and ready to accommodate the company's Sharktooth Bluetooth communicator. We spotted the replica helmet selling for $650 in the US and €550 in Europe.

As for the story of how Lorenzo ended his partnership with HJC, it looks like only he and the Korean manufacturer know... and neither of them appears to be too willing to talk openly about this. However, it's true that Lorenzo had problems on two occasions, with a foam liner that obstructed his vision, and then with a fogging visor.

Also, there were rumors that HJC was not at all happy with Lorenzo’s attitude towards the end of the championship, plus allegations of unsportsmanlike conduct, and all. Yet, things are so far a mystery, and will probably remain so for a long time.
