Jaguar’s I-Pace, the concept that previewed an electric SUV from the brand, is just the beginning of a revolution.
The said revolution will come in the form of a range of electric cars from Jaguar, which has not been confirmed in layman’s terms, but has been suggested as the next thing to happen in the future of the company. As you already know, the Jaguar I-Pace will get a production version for MY2018, but this model is the first in a long line of electric vehicles from Coventry.
Jaguar’s first electric models will first be made in Graz, Austria, but the Brits do want to build the next products in the line on their home turf. Unfortunately, no decision has been made on that front, but Jaguar’s boss, Ralf Speth, has already stated that he expects to generate 10,000 jobs by the end of the decade if the company were to build EVs in the UK.
The statement we are referring is the one that partly discloses this brand’s plans for electric vehicles. Evidently, EVs are not the most popular category of an automobile on the market today, but a day will come when everyone will want to buy an electric car, and Jaguar wants to be there with a plentiful range in front of its potential clients.
Jaguar is traditionally renowned for its coupes, as well as its sedans, so introducing an electric SUV was a surprise for some. Evidently, the move was made to help some people accept the notion of a new powertrain solution from this brand, which was prefaced in a modern body style.
The second electric model from Jaguar is expected to be a sedan, which should appeal to traditional customers of this brand. While an electric coupe from Jaguar would be interesting, the introduction of an electric model with a less practical body style could be detrimental to sales, particularly as it will be compared to an SUV, the production version of the I-Pace.
