Indian TVS Motors Wants BMW Engines
With India being a huge market for 2-wheel transportation, we might expect to see some BMW technology powering new TVS models in the future. The German group is already powering Chinese bikes with some middleweight GS engines, so expanding the Asian market would be small surprise.
However, one thing is still to be cleared, and that's seeing which engines will TVS get from BMW. An overwhelming proportion of all the bikes in Asia are under the 200cc mark, while BMW has no such small engines, at least none that we currently know of now.
On the other hand, the TVS Motors official made it clear that his company is seriously considering going beyond the 200cc segment and are really looking forward to build a “domestic big bike” , possibly to be released in the next 18-24 months.
As we were already expecting, we are going to see a fierce battle between the major bike manufacturers (both European and Japanese) in the middleweight segment. The game is already on with machines such as the KTM 390 Duke and his rumored siblings, Suzuki Inazuma, smaller Honda CBRs, and many more. And deep in the shadows, there also is Harley-Davidson prowling about.
