The new Golf GTI is designed to be an everyday hot hatch, not a track machine, a car that will comfortably take you to the shops without screaming in your ear. As a result, its brake system works quietly and without fuss, not being ideal for track use.
If you want to take your Mk7 GTI to the Nurburgring, you might want to consider a big brake kit. A German company called Stoptech offers a TUV-certified kit that’s been designed and tested at the famous track.
BBM Motorsport recently installed the 328x25mm big brake kit on one of their project cars and found that from 100 km/h, it stopped the car 5 meters sooner than the setup of the GTI with Performance Pack.
The 328mm rotor works just fine with the 17-inch wheel, but you can fit a massive 355mm rotor if you go to 18 and 380mm with 19-inch wheels.
