The same Canadian gentlemen at Daymak have returned with a new model of their solar-powered last-mile commuter. As opposed to The Beast, however, this one looks a lot more fit for a city scooter and, most importantly, it is considerably cheaper. Features such as two speakers and two USB ports are also not to be ignored.
The concept that founded the premises of this 21st-century commuter is common sense if you ask us. But gone are the days when what you’d think is natural actually happens. For instance, you’d expect human beings to work together and develop means to travel in outer space, instead of growing against each other. You’d also expect mankind to protect nature to the point of understanding that it’s our host, and we’re just guests. It’s not the other way around.
In the same nuance, you’d expect everything to work with sustainable means of power, considering that we now know how to harvest solar, wind, water energy in a way to make things work. All these aspects, make you wonder how come solar-powered scooters like Daymak’s are not everywhere already.
Put simple, Photon is a solar self-charging boombox scooter with integrated speakers built on a solar pod with Bluetooth and USB charging ports. Equipped with polycrystalline solar panel cells on top of the base, the scooter is constantly being trickle-charged when not in use, increasing the range.
AM/FM radio and USB/micro SD ports are all connected and integrated with speakers near the front wheel. Depending on the model, options and so on, the estimated retail price will start at $299. Until that moment, however, there’s a Kickstarter campaign running to back the project.
In terms of specs, we’re looking at 4 to 6 hours when plugged into an outlet, and around 17 hours of natural light. The maximum load is set at 220.5 lbs (100 kg) while the top speed will not pass little over 9 mph (up to 15 km/h). Again it’s a great commuter to cover short rides with, but if you reside on the solar-power solely, it’s fair to call it a free ride.
