When it comes to the FIA World Endurance Championship (not to mention the 24 Hours of Le Mans), the Audi R18 e-tron quattro is the car to beat for more than a couple of years now. The German’s have won just about anything with it so far and have achieved a historic milestone of 100 overall victories.
Audi’s 100th LMP win occurred last weekend in Texas. when Loic Duval, Tom Kristensen and Alan McNish took the checkered flag in the No.2 R18 e-tron quattro on the demanding “Circuits of the Americas” track. The trio, who also won this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, crossed the finish line with a 23-second advantage in front of the second-place Toyota TS030.
The Austin win also means that Audi remains undefeated in the current FIA World Endurance Championship, extending its World Manufacturer’s Championship lead to 69 points.
“This was quite literally a very hot race today. It was only decided in the last 80 minutes. But we again managed to be in front. The 100th victory of an Audi LMP sports car is definitely something special. I’m happy for the whole team that has made all this possible,” said Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Motorsport.
