By now, Volkswagen has sold thousands of Golf 7 R models across Europe. People who go street racing at night know what one looks like and what its 300 horsepower engine can do.
You're not going to be able to touch one in a Civic Type R unless you have a rolling start. However, the super-Golf is not a problem for Porsches and other serious sportscars.
However, turn up to a race in a 450 horsepower Golf R and things will be different. Yes, it's going to have turbo lag and spin the wheels all the way to third gear, but who cares.
If you don't think 450 horsepower from a 2-liter turbo engine is a big deal, you probably need a history lesson. The legendary R32 of 2005 produced 250 hp from its 3.2-liter engine. While we are on the subject of cult cars, the Clio V6 had slightly less in its first form. Ferrari? A 360 Modena from 1999 had 400 horsepower and didn't weight a lot less.
Of course, not everybody is that power-crazed as to need 450 hp. That's why O.CT Tuning offers its craziness in stages. Stage 1 takes the numbers from 300 hp and 380 Nm to 370 hp and 460 Nm. Most people will stop there, but there's also Stage 2 with 378 hp and 480 Nm, followed by Stage 3 with 395 hp and 505 Nm.
The tuning company says that all its glossy upgrades also apply to the SEAT Leon Cupra. We don't know who's crazy enough to own a 450 hp FWD car, but he probably exists.
The Stage 4 kit we keep talking about brings 550 Nm of twisting power in addition to the 450 hp. The list of mods is pretty long, but the important ones include a new air box and manifold and pipes, stainless steel exhaust system, modified turbo, downpipe with racing cat, intercooler, oil cooler, and modified ECU.
The DSG gearbox has also received a stronger clutch set, a torque limit, and faster shift times thanks to new software. Even launch control has been played with to take advantage of the boost.
