The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been in testing for quite some time, which is even more surprising considering how little appears to be changed over the current generation. The fact that there's a limited number of aesthetic alterations isn't surprising for a facelift, but Mercedes-Benz's incessant testing of this new limousine might hide some new features that can't be observed in pictures.
And pictures and videos of the new S-Class is something we haven't lacked in. With the car so active in various parts of the world, our spy photographers were on hand to capture in detail every little new bob that the designers and engineers added to the new Mercedes-Benz range topper.

Given the discreet nature of the tweaks, the camouflage used was similarly modest, sometimes being even rather hard to spot itself. However, it was strictly applied where it mattered and it did a good job at hiding the design of the new headlights, for example. Up to a point.

Now, a large fleet of S-Class test cars has been spotted heading to the Alps, and the novelty, this time, consists of a closer look at its rear bumper. Up until now, the 2018 S-Class facelift was only spotted using the old rear bumper or one that was completely covered in black tape, hiding any sort of detail.

These shots show that the new model will have a more rounded, better-integrated bumper with a pair of exhaust tailpipes that borrow the same theme. The air diffuser and the reflectors remain hidden, but the LED strip in between the two exhausts appears still to be there. Once again, if there were any doubts left, if the new S-Class will differ from the current version, it won't mainly be due to its looks.

The Mercedes-Benz limousine is slowly running out of new things it can show us, which can only mean one thing: we're getting ready to its launch date. Well, since time is passing by, that's a bit of a truism, but indeed the new S-Class is scheduled for an early 2017 release, with the Geneva show in March looking like a very likely candidate.
